September 12, 2019 marked the beginning of Pacific Peoples’ Partnership’s (PPP) 12th annual One Wave Gathering. This month-long gathering offers several free community events with the permission and support of the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nation.

Pacific Peoples’ Partnership has been supporting South Pacific Islanders and Indigenous peoples for over forty years. South Pacific Islander Organization (SPIO) was honored to receive an invitation from the gracious PPP leaders to join in this important community-building gathering.

This event brought together orgs working to support South Pacific Islanders and Pacific Northwest indigenous folks. The events featured communities showcasing stories and sharing knowledge. Throughout the entire month, they had an open exhibit at a local studio showcasing art from Pacific and Indigenous peoples. Three of them were projects focused on reviving traditional travel ways.
